Prepare a mobile welding repair brief
Prepare a welding enquiry: describe the damage, use, material condition, access and intended outcome. Leave inspection and preparation to the contractor.
A clear repair brief helps a contractor decide what to inspect and what equipment might be required. You do not need to diagnose the metal or prepare the item before asking for an assessment.
What is the item used for?
Describe the whole item and its normal use. Explain whether it supports weight, moves, contains pressure or has a safety function. Say when the damage appeared and whether a previous repair has failed. If the item could be unsafe, stop using it and keep people clear.
What can you record without touching it?
- The approximate size and location.
- The visible problem and how it affects use.
- Any identifying information already available.
- Whether it is fixed in place or normally movable.
- Access for the contractor and their vehicle.
Do not remove guards, move a heavy gate, grind a coating or dismantle equipment to make the enquiry more detailed. Describe what you can see safely. The contractor should decide what inspection and preparation are appropriate.
What should the quote cover?
Ask for the repair or replacement scope, material supply, preparation, finishing, travel and any workshop component. Confirm exclusions and any specialist assessment required. Explain the outcome you need, but allow the contractor to recommend a different approach if the proposed repair is unsuitable.
